Our Experience

We Know How Aftermarket Warranties Work

Aftermarket warranties — sometimes called vehicle service contracts — are purchased separately from your vehicle and can come from a dealership, a third party company, or directly from a warranty provider. They vary widely in what they cover and how claims are processed. At ESS Fleet Service we have worked with these warranties for years and understand exactly what each provider needs to approve a claim. We handle the process from diagnosis to authorization to completed repair so you are never left navigating it alone.

Know the Difference

Extended Warranty vs Aftermarket Warranty — What Is the Difference?

Many people use these terms interchangeably but there is a distinction worth knowing.

Extended Warranty

Sold by the vehicle manufacturer or an authorized dealer at the time of purchase. Typically extends the factory warranty period.

Aftermarket Warranty

Also called a vehicle service contract. Purchased separately, often from a third party provider, and can be bought at any time during vehicle ownership. These vary significantly by provider and coverage level.

Both types are accepted at ESS Fleet Service. We work with the paperwork and authorization process regardless of which type of coverage you have.

The Process

How Aftermarket Warranty Repairs Work at ESS

Step 1

Drop Your Vehicle Off

Tell us you have an aftermarket warranty when you arrive. Bring your contract or policy number if you have it.

Step 2

We Diagnose and Document

We perform a thorough inspection and create detailed documentation of the issue — exactly what warranty companies need to process a claim.

Step 3

We Handle the Authorization

We contact your warranty provider directly, walk through the claim, and work to get authorization approved as quickly as possible.

Step 4

Repairs Completed

Once authorized we complete all covered repairs using quality parts. You pay your deductible. We handle the rest.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

An aftermarket warranty — also called a vehicle service contract — is a coverage plan purchased separately from your vehicle that pays for certain mechanical repairs. Unlike a factory warranty it is not issued by the manufacturer and can be purchased at any point during vehicle ownership.

In most cases no. The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act protects your right to use any qualified repair facility. We meet the standards required by most aftermarket warranty providers.

We will explain exactly why the claim was denied and walk you through your options. We can help you understand the appeals process or provide a clear estimate if you decide to pay out of pocket.

Not necessarily. Come in first. We will handle the diagnosis and contact your provider to initiate the authorization process.

Most authorizations are completed same day or within 24 hours. Some complex claims can take 1-2 business days depending on your provider. We will keep you informed throughout.

We will clearly separate covered repairs from non-covered repairs before any work begins. You will know exactly what your warranty pays for and what your out-of-pocket cost is for anything additional.

Most aftermarket warranties do not cover routine maintenance like oil changes or tire rotations. They typically cover mechanical failures and breakdowns. Check your contract or call us and we can help you understand your coverage.
